This morning, Mom and Dad come to my new flat in Uptown with the rest of my things. It only took them 45 minutes to get here, so I was grateful to know that they aren't too far away. Mom and I unloaded the car, and some of my roommates were nice enough to help carry things up as well. Who needs a gym membership when you have to carry things up three flights of stairs? While we did this, Dad was kind enough to shovel the iron staircase that we had to climb up. At one point, when I was walking up, he dumped a huge pile of snow right on top of my head. My roommates got a good laugh out of that. I haf to say, it felt a lot like being at home – with Dad around, there is always laughter.
Mom helped me unpack and organize all of my clothes and other things, while Dad fixed one of our windows as well as mine and Kailee’s bedroom door. Then, while Mom and I finished unpacking, Dad was nice enough to take a couple of my roommates to Target so they could grocery shop. Mom and I finished before they got back, so we sat in my living room while we filled each other in on what’s going on in our separate worlds.
When Dad got back, we went to Potbelly’s for lunch, and then went grocery shopping at Jewel. After this, it was time for Mom and Dad to go home. I was a little sad to see them go, but I know that I will be seeing them again soon. It was great to spend a few hours with them. They were both surpirsed and excited about the size of my new digs, and really like my roommates (which is not surprising because they are awesome).
After mom and dad left, the girls and I decided to move some furniture around a bit. We now have a TV and a couch on the other half of our dining room area. When Jacqui and her fiance Jon came back, we all decided to check out this cupcake place that’s down the street from us. Their website said it was open until 7, but we got there at 5:30 and they were closed! We were sad, but we fully intend to sample those cupcakes sometime! So we went back home and just lounged around, snacking and talking and again enjoying our free wi-fi, while watching Bridesmaids. It was a long week, full of activity, so a nice quiet evening in our new home was nice.
Now that everything is settled and has its place, I feel more at home here. It will still be an interesting few days, considering we have nothing scheduled, but we will have to see what we can find to pass the time. On Monday, 4 of us have 15 minute meetings to discuss our internships and finalize where we will be working. That is all that's scheduled, but those 15 minutes are a big deal! So I'm looking forward to that (though I am a little nervous to hear my interviewer’s comments).
I am praying for you all and hope that you are well! Thanks again to all of you for reading!
I miss you. I love you. Always.
